Russian Attack on Hostomel Injures Man, 66, and 8-Year-Old Girl; Warehouse Fire Reported

1 min read
Russian forces attacked Hostomel in the Kyiv region on October 2, 2026, injuring two civilians and causing a fire at warehouse and industrial facilities. The attack is part of a broader Russian strike campaign targeting Kyiv and its surrounding areas. According to Kyiv Regional Military Administration head Tymur Tkachenko, a 66-year-old man sustained burns to his body and a closed abdominal injury. He was hospitalized at a local medical facility. An 8-year-old girl received a shrapnel wound to her lower limb. Rescue services were working to extinguish the fire at the struck industrial complex. Hostomel, a town northwest of Kyiv, saw intense fighting in the early days of Russia's full-scale invasion in February 2022 when Russian forces attempted to capture Hostomel Airport to use as a staging point for an assault on the capital. Ukrainian forces repelled the attack. The town has faced ongoing Russian air strikes throughout the war.
