1 min read

A Russian drone attack on Kyiv on September 23 left two people dead and 22 others wounded, according to Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko. The attack targeted multiple districts of the Ukrainian capital, with drones striking residential and commercial buildings.

Casualties and damage

Mayor Klitschko reported that one victim died at the scene and a second man succumbed to his injuries in hospital. Of the 22 wounded, 16 were admitted to city hospitals for treatment. A drone struck a commercial building in the Solomyansk district, while another hit a nine-story non-residential structure in the Holosiivskyi district, where emergency services were deployed.

Infrastructure impact

Ukrzaliznytsia, the state railway company, confirmed that the central Kyiv railway station was not damaged, despite drones striking nearby areas. Officials urged all passengers and residents to remain in shelters until the air raid alarm was lifted. Kyiv railway chief Oleksandr Pertsovskyi warned that railway infrastructure in the capital remained under enemy threat and advised people to exercise maximum caution in the coming days.

Response and context

This latest wave of Russian attacks is part of an ongoing campaign targeting Ukrainian cities. Polish airports in Rzeszów and Lublin temporarily suspended operations, and Poland scrambled its military aircraft in response to the scale of the Russian strikes against Ukraine. Ukrainian defense forces have continued to respond with strikes on Russian military assets, including drone control points and warehouses in the occupied territories.
