LUTSK — On the morning of April 1, Russian forces launched a coordinated drone assault on the western Ukrainian city of Lutsk in the Volyn region. The strike severely damaged an industrial zone, completely destroying a major postal terminal and igniting fires at local grocery warehouses.

According to the Lutsk City Council, an industrial enterprise took a direct hit, while falling debris from a "Shahed" attack drone struck a multi-story residential building, damaging a balcony and sparking a localized fire.

Zero Casualties Reported

Despite the scale of the destruction, local authorities confirmed that there have been no casualties. Former Lutsk Mayor Ihor Polishchuk clarified the nature of the targets, stating, "The strategic objects identified for the attack were a Nova Poshta warehouse and a grocery warehouse belonging to a retail chain." He added that as of 7:30 AM local time, no deaths or injuries had been recorded.

All emergency response teams were immediately dispatched to the affected sites. Throughout the morning, regional authorities urged residents to remain in bomb shelters as the air raid alert continued across multiple regions of Ukraine.

Nova Poshta Promises Compensation

The Ukrainian postal and courier company, Nova Poshta, confirmed the total destruction of its terminal in the city. Fortunately, the company noted that all employees had successfully relocated to shelters at the time of the impact and emerged unharmed.

"The assessment of the destruction is ongoing," Nova Poshta stated via Telegram. The company assured its customers that detailed information regarding damaged freight would be provided once the aftermath of the strike is cleared. "The company will compensate clients for the loss of their shipments. In the near future, we will contact you to provide compensation details. Additional information about shipments can be tracked in our app."

Air Quality Warning

Following the strikes, the massive fires at the industrial and grocery sites led to a significant deterioration in local air quality. The Lutsk City Council issued an urgent public health advisory regarding the heavy smoke covering the city.

"Due to the fires that erupted in the city as a result of enemy shelling, there is significant atmospheric smoke," the council warned. "We ask residents of the community to keep their windows tightly closed to prevent harmful substances from entering their homes."
