Russian occupation forces struck a suburban commuter train in the Kharkiv region on Friday, September 18, killing one person and injuring seven others, Ukrzaliznytsia and the Kharkiv Regional Military Administration reported.

The victims had not maintained a safe distance from the train during evacuation. Ukrzaliznytsia urged passengers to always move at least 200 metres away from rolling stock and railway infrastructure when there is no shelter nearby. This rule can save lives, the operator stressed.

Casualties confirmed

Kharkiv Regional Military Administration head Oleh Syniehubov confirmed that as of 12:20 local time, a 40-year-old man had been killed. Seven people were wounded and are receiving medical assistance. Emergency services are addressing the aftermath of the strike.

The war in Ukraine has repeatedly targeted civilian infrastructure in the Kharkiv region, which lies close to the Russian border.
