Russian Drone Strikes School in Central Rivne, 20 Wounded

1 min read

A Russian drone struck a school building in the center of Rivne on October 13, injuring 20 people, the head of the Rivne Regional Military Administration Oleksandr Koval reported. Air Force units also confirmed the attack.

Casualties and Damage

"Unfortunately, we have 14 wounded. One person is in serious condition, three are in moderate condition," Koval initially reported before updating the toll to 20 as more information became available. The drone struck the building's second floor and partially damaged the facade. A fire broke out as a result of the strike but was quickly localized by emergency services.

Strike in City Center

The attack targeted an educational facility in the very center of Rivne, a city in northwestern Ukraine. The deliberate targeting of educational infrastructure represents a pattern of Russian strikes against civilian and social facilities far from the front lines.

Context

The strike on Rivne came on the same day Russia launched a barrage of missiles and drones against Kyiv, Kharkiv, and other Ukrainian cities. Rivne is located approximately 300 kilometers west of Kyiv, demonstrating Russia's ability and intent to strike deep inside Ukrainian territory.
