Russian KAB bomb hits Izium in Kharkiv region, 2-month-old baby among wounded

In the early hours of Monday, September 14, Russian occupying forces struck the city of Izium in Ukraine's Kharkiv region with a guided aerial bomb (KAB), wounding three civilians, including a 2-month-old infant.

Three wounded, homes destroyed

According to Kharkiv Regional Military Administration head Oleh Syniehubov, a 56-year-old man, a 34-year-old woman, and a 2-month-old baby were injured in the strike. Four private residential buildings were completely destroyed, and five more houses, along with several passenger vehicles, were damaged. All emergency services have been dispatched to the scene.

Pattern of attacks on civilian infrastructure

The attack on Izium follows a series of Russian strikes targeting Ukrainian cities and civilian areas. Izium, located in eastern Kharkiv region, was occupied by Russian forces in 2022 and liberated by Ukraine in September of the same year during a major counteroffensive. It has since been the target of intermittent Russian attacks. The use of KAB guided bombs against populated areas has drawn repeated condemnation from human rights organisations and international governments.
