1 min read

Russian forces attacked the Ukrainian city of Sumy with three KAB guided bombs on Sunday, September 27, killing two civilians and wounding five others, according to Sumy Regional Military Administration head Oleh Hryhorov.

Victims

One of the victims is Kateryna, a 16-year-old girl who had gone to a nearby shop when the air alert warning of incoming KAB bombs was announced. She ran toward the nearest shelter but did not make it in time. The second victim is an elderly woman. Among the five wounded is one child.

Strike on Family Support Center

One of the three bomb strikes landed near the building of a center for family and children support. At the time of the attack, there were no visitors in the building, though it sustained structural damage.

Sumy, a regional capital in northeastern Ukraine near the Russian border, has faced repeated air attacks throughout the war. KAB-guided bombs—converted Soviet-era aerial bombs fitted with glide kits—have become one of Russia's primary weapons against Ukrainian cities in 2025–2026.
