Russian Strike on Kyiv Kills 11, Wounds 46 in Coordinated Attack

A devastating Russian missile and drone assault struck Kyiv in the early hours of July 6, leaving at least 11 people dead and 46 others injured across four districts of the Ukrainian capital. The death toll rose steadily through the morning as emergency teams combed through collapsed structures.

Widespread Destruction Across Four Districts

The attack targeted residential areas in Podilsky, Darnytskyi, Shevchenkivskyi, and Holosiivskyi districts. In Podilsky, a direct hit destroyed floors five through nine of a multi-storey apartment block, sending concrete and debris cascading into the streets below. Rescue workers spent hours searching the wreckage for survivors trapped beneath the rubble.

In Darnytskyi district, fire broke out in a 25-floor residential tower after debris ignited external insulation. Firefighters battled the blaze for several hours before bringing it under control, evacuating dozens of residents from the building.

Victims Include Children

Among the 46 injured, 27 required hospitalisation, including three children. Medical teams at Kyiv's emergency hospitals treated blast injuries, lacerations, and burns. City officials confirmed the identities of those killed were still being established as rescue operations continued.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky condemned the strike, calling it a deliberate targeting of civilian neighbourhoods. Kyiv's air defence units managed to intercept a portion of the incoming weapons, but the volume and variety of munitions — combining ballistic missiles with Shahed drones — overwhelmed parts of the defensive screen.

Criminal Investigation Opened

The Kyiv Prosecutor's Office announced the opening of criminal proceedings under the article on violation of the laws and customs of war. Investigators documented damage at dozens of locations across the affected districts. City authorities urged residents to avoid damaged structures and cooperate with emergency services. Power and water supply disruptions were reported in several neighbourhoods.
