Saxony-Anhalt Parliament Schedules Vote on Resolution to End Ukraine Aid

1 min read

The state parliament of Saxony-Anhalt, Germany, convened a special session for October 14 to vote on a resolution calling for an end to military aid for Ukraine and the lifting of sanctions against Russia.

The motion is backed by the AfD and BSW (Alliance Sahra Wagenknecht) factions. AfD faction leader Ulrich Siegmund has been a leading advocate for the initiative.

While the resolution is largely symbolic at the state level — foreign and defense policy being federal matters — it signals mounting pressure on Germany's governing coalition from the far-right and left-populist opposition. Germany has provided billions of euros in military equipment and financial aid to Ukraine since Russia's full-scale invasion began in February 2022.
