Secret Russian Weapons Cache Discovered Near Berlin

📅 Aug 21, 2026⏱ 2 min read💬 0 comments🔴 Live updates

German authorities have uncovered a secret weapons cache in a forest in Brandenburg containing two loaded handguns, believed to be a depot set up by Russian agents for planned physical attacks on German territory. The discovery was reported by NDR, WDR, and Süddeutsche Zeitung.

Federal Prosecutors Launch Investigation

Germany's Federal Public Prosecutor's Office opened an investigation for suspected preparation of a serious state-threatening act of violence. A suspect arrested in Romania last autumn is believed to have set up the cache. Security services received a tip and found the stash in the summer of 2025. The weapons were then rendered inoperable and fitted with GPS trackers while the location was placed under surveillance — ultimately without success. Investigators believe the suspects may have learned the cache was discovered.

Russian 'Dead Drop' for Sabotage Agents

German intelligence has concluded the firearms were pre-positioned for agents acting on Russia's behalf to carry out "kinetic operations" — physical attacks such as bombings or assassinations. The depot was described as a "dead letter box with potentially lethal content." Such hidden weapons caches were standard practice for Soviet intelligence during the Cold War and have continued to be used by Russian intelligence services in recent years, including for supplying spies operating in the West under false identities. Germany's domestic intelligence agency declined to comment; the Russian embassy did not respond.
