Serbian President Vucic Announces Resignation
Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic announced his resignation on Sunday, September 27, while speaking to journalists in New York. He said he would formally submit the letter around 20:00 Belgrade time (21:00 Kyiv) and promised to explain his decision later.
Political Background
On September 9, Vucic dissolved parliament at the government’s proposal and called snap parliamentary elections for October 25. The Serbian Progressive Party’s main council then nominated him to lead the party’s electoral list under the banner “United Serbia.”
Farewell Message
On the eve of the announcement, Vucic wrote on Instagram that being president of Serbia had been the greatest honor of his life. “Every day I tried to do my best, to live up to the trust placed in me and to serve my country faithfully and devotedly. Long live Serbia!”
