Shirshyn Drug Plant Case: Suspect Aliiev Arrested With 15 Million UAH Bail Option

On Thursday September 10, a court selected a preventive measure for military serviceman Aliiev T.V., one of three suspects who allegedly planted narcotics in the vehicle of former Magura battalion commander Oleksandr Shirshyn.

The court ordered detention until November 8, or alternatively a bail of 14,976,000 hryvnia. Defense lawyers argued for the proceedings to be held in closed session, citing state secrets and military unit locations. However, the prosecutor successfully argued for an open hearing.

Defense attorney Tkachenko stated they had filed a petition to release the suspect under the supervision of a guarantor, noting that the accused is a Hero of Ukraine. Defense attorney Stetsenko claimed the case has a strong political element.

Background: On September 9, DBR investigators and National Police's Internal Affairs exposed three former law enforcement officers, now serving as military personnel, who allegedly organized a provocation and planted narcotics in Shirshyn's vehicle.
