A 22-year-old Swiss woman was fatally shot and five others were wounded at a techno rave party in the Swiss city of Aarau in the early hours of Sunday morning. The shooting took place at around 3 a.m. at the horse racing track in the Schachen district, where a large party was underway.

What Happened

The Aargau cantonal police confirmed the death of the young woman, who died at the scene. Four men and one woman, all aged between 24 and 27, were injured — some of them seriously. All six victims are Swiss nationals, according to police. A video published by the Swiss newspaper Blick, reportedly filmed near the scene, captured approximately ten gunshots.

Manhunt Underway

Police deployed a large number of officers to the scene and called on the public to avoid the area. The identity of the shooter and the motive for the attack remain unknown. Neighboring German police are also participating in general search operations — a routine procedure in cross-border policing, according to a spokesperson for the Freiburg police headquarters, who declined to give details on specific measures.

DJ Reacts

The DJ of the event, known as DJ Tekibo, posted a reaction on Instagram. "What happened at the rave is absolutely heartbreaking," he wrote. "Techno and raves should be a place of freedom and safety." He added that he had lost an important person and could not find the right words, and announced he would take time away from public activities.

Aarau is the capital of the canton of Aargau and is located approximately 40 kilometers west of Zurich and 20 kilometers from the German border. The city has a population of around 23,000 people. Police asked witnesses to submit any video or photo material through the official Instagram channel of the Aargau cantonal police.
