A 14-year-old student in Thailand killed seven people on Friday in a shooting that began at his home and ended at his school, Thai authorities confirmed.
The teenager first shot and killed his grandparents inside their home. After the killings, he armed himself and made his way to his school. The exact circumstances that triggered the attack are still being investigated.
Upon arriving at the school, the student opened fire on staff members, killing five teachers. Emergency services arrived quickly but all seven victims were declared dead at the scenes. Students and remaining staff were evacuated from the premises.
Thai police arrested the 14-year-old near the school. His identity has not been released due to his status as a minor. Investigators are working to establish a motive and examining how the teenager gained access to the firearm.
The incident has prompted urgent calls for a review of school security measures across Thailand. Authorities pledged to examine firearms access and tighten safeguards at educational institutions nationwide.
