Trump Envoys Witkoff and Kushner May Visit Moscow with New Peace Ideas
US President Donald Trump's special envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner may travel to Moscow in late October, according to Axios citing a source familiar with the situation. The potential visit would follow high-level talks scheduled for Friday in Miami, where the American side plans to present new ideas and proposals to break the deadlock in the Russia-Ukraine war.
Miami Meetings Come First
Ukrainian negotiators are expected in the United States on October 9-10 for talks with the American side, as President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed on Thursday. European partners will also join the Ukrainian delegation, raising hopes for a coordinated Western approach to the peace effort.
According to the source, Witkoff and Kushner have been working with both Russian and Ukrainian counterparts on an updated peace initiative since their joint visit to Moscow and Kyiv in early September 2026.
Diplomatic Contradictions
The potential Moscow trip comes even as Secretary of State Marco Rubio declared this week that ending the Russia-Ukraine war through diplomacy is currently "unachievable." Back-channel diplomacy appears to continue at pace, with Trump's envoys maintaining an unusually active shuttle role between the two capitals.
