Trump Ousts Guilfoyle as US Ambassador to Greece Over Corruption Claims
President Donald Trump's administration has asked Kimberly Guilfoyle to resign from her post as the United States ambassador to Greece, White House press secretary Katie Zacharia announced on October 13, 2026. The move comes amid mounting allegations of improper conduct.
The Allegations
Reports alleged that Guilfoyle, a former Fox News host, asked a Trump donor to pay her hefty credit card bills in exchange for access to the administration, and that she behaved inappropriately during her time in Athens. Trump said he was not happy with what he had read: "I didn't like what I read." He added that Guilfoyle had "done a good job" but would "not be there" in Greece any longer.
Guilfoyle's Response
In a lengthy post on social media, Guilfoyle denied any wrongdoing, calling the allegations "false." She said the ambassadorship had been "the honour of a lifetime" and vowed to "vigorously defend" her name and reputation. The announcement came during Zacharia's first — and unusually short — White House press briefing.
Background
Guilfoyle, 57, is the ex-wife of California Governor Gavin Newsom and was nominated as envoy to Athens in December 2024, a month before Trump returned to the White House. Her position had grown increasingly precarious as corruption allegations mounted over the past week.
