Trump Says Zelensky Does Not Want to End War, Praises Xi and Russia

1 min read

US President Donald Trump said on Oct. 19 that Chinese leader Xi Jinping had been fair on Ukraine, and that Russia had been too, according to remarks carried by Clash Report.

"Xi Jinping has been very fair on Ukraine. He hasn't been very much involved. Same with Russia. They haven't been nearly what they could've been. They know I appreciate that," Trump said.

"Time to hand talks to someone else"

Trump also said that it may be time for Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to hand negotiations to someone else. "Zelensky should have resolved this war a long time ago. If he had listened to me, he would have struck a much better deal long ago, and he would have had millions of people on his side," he said. In his view, the Ukrainian president does not want to end the war.

Asked about Zelensky's remark that someone is on the "wrong side of history", Trump replied: "Zelensky doesn't know what he's talking about... We gave Ukraine significant aid. And what did Ukraine give us in return? Nothing. Remember that."

Reference to an unnamed woman

Trump also said he had seen on television a speech by "one woman" who accuses Zelensky and said she was "very famous" and that "they want to put her in prison." He did not say whom he meant.

Sharp exchange

On Sunday, Zelensky accused Trump of trying to pressure Ukraine into capitulating to Russia and of delaying Patriot interceptor deliveries. On Monday, Trump accused Zelensky of never having wanted to end the war.
