KHERSON — Two civilian women lost their lives, and a driver sustained injuries following a targeted Russian drone attack on a passenger vehicle in the southern Ukrainian city of Kherson on Wednesday, April 1, 2026.

Details of the Deadly Attack

Local authorities reported that the lethal strike occurred in broad daylight as the vehicle was navigating the city streets. The Kherson Regional Prosecutor's Office released an official statement detailing the preliminary findings of the investigation.

"According to the investigation, on April 1, 2026, at about 11:20, the military of the Russian Federation army dropped an explosive device from a UAV on a car in Kherson. As a result of the attack, two female passengers died. The driver was injured and taken to the hospital," the Prosecutor's Office confirmed.

War Crime Investigation Launched

In response to the fatal bombing, Ukrainian law enforcement authorities have officially initiated criminal proceedings. The case has been opened under Part 2 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which addresses violations of the laws and customs of war resulting in premeditated murder.

This tragedy highlights a continuing pattern of deadly strikes on the region's civilian infrastructure and residents. Just days prior, on the afternoon of March 26, another Russian bombardment in Kherson claimed the life of a female employee working at a local combined heat and power plant.
