UK Approves Eli Lilly's Foundayo Oral Weight Loss Pill

📅 Aug 10, 2026⏱ 1 min read💬 0 comments
The United Kingdom has approved Foundayo (orforglipron), an oral GLP-1 receptor agonist developed by Eli Lilly — the maker of Mounjaro — for weight management and type 2 diabetes treatment. The approval makes the UK the first European country to authorise the drug. Unlike some oral peptide therapies, Foundayo can be taken once daily at any time without food or water restrictions. In clinical trials, participants achieved an average weight loss of 7.4% to 11.1% over 72 weeks, compared to 2.1% with placebo. The drug was first approved by the US Food and Drug Administration on 1 April 2026. Although Foundayo now has UK regulatory approval, it is not yet available on the NHS — a NICE decision on its availability is expected on 18 November 2026.
