UK-Iranian Dual National Arrested Over RAF Fairford Terror Plot
Counter-terrorism police have arrested a 25-year-old UK-Iranian dual national in Westminster on suspicion of preparation of terrorist acts, in connection with the incident at RAF Fairford. Two properties in the area were searched. Five other men, all UK nationals from London, remain on police bail after being arrested near the Gloucestershire airbase last Sunday.
Iran Connection Under Scrutiny
Counter-terror police are investigating all possible angles, including foreign state involvement. Prime Minister Andy Burnham said there were strong indications that Iran played a part in the incident, though Tehran has strongly denied any involvement. The five men were initially arrested after three suspicious vehicles were spotted travelling towards the US Air Force base. Petrol was found but no explosive devices.
Base Used for Strikes on Iran
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said the hands of a foreign actor were clearly involved. RAF Fairford has served as a forward operating base for US bombers, which have taken off from there for strikes in the Middle East following UK approval of US requests to use it. The investigation remains ongoing, with specialist teams pursuing multiple lines of enquiry.
