Ukraine Awaits Russia's List of Energy Sites for Potential Ceasefire

Ukraine is ready for an energy ceasefire and is calling on Russia to provide concrete details to make it happen, a spokesperson for Ukraine's Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on September 16. The Ukrainian side has long proposed this kind of arrangement, but has yet to receive a substantive response from Moscow.

Ukraine's Position

MFA spokesman Heorhiy Tykhyi stated: "Ukraine is ready for an energy ceasefire. Moreover, Ukraine itself has been proposing for a long enough time to establish such a ceasefire, which must be honest and fair and cover all necessary areas of this possible ceasefire. If the Russians are seriously ready for this too, let them provide the lists of objects, let them clarify the details — we are waiting for that."

Zelensky's Goal

President Zelensky has sought a ceasefire regime that would prohibit the use of any types of weapons against all energy infrastructure objects on both sides. This would cover power plants, gas facilities, oil infrastructure, and related assets.

No New Information on Talks

Tykhyi also noted that there is currently no new or additional information about the possibility of new trilateral negotiations. Russia has repeatedly attacked Ukraine's energy grid throughout the war, causing widespread blackouts and infrastructure damage that has affected millions of civilians.
