Ukraine delegation heads home as Miami peace talks end early
Ukraine's negotiating delegation has left the United States and is on its way home after talks in Miami involving representatives of the US, Ukraine, European countries, and NATO on pathways toward de-escalation and ending the war concluded earlier than planned. Presidential communications adviser Dmytro Lytvyn confirmed the departure to reporters on Saturday.
First day ran long, second day not held separately
Lytvyn described the outcome carefully: the second day of discussions was 'not so much cancelled as the first day turned out to be longer and had a somewhat different flavour.' The talks in Miami were part of ongoing international efforts to find a framework for resolving the conflict that began with Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
Weekend meetings and coalition of the willing
Follow-up conversations are planned for Saturday, Sunday, and Monday, though the formats for those meetings are still being worked out, Lytvyn said. Asked about a possible convening of the 'coalition of the willing' — the group of European nations committed to Ukraine's defence — he confirmed that meetings are being organised for the coming days.
