Ternopil medical commission sold 1,000 fake military deferment certificates for $6,000-12,000 each

Ukrainian law enforcement has exposed a large-scale corruption scheme involving a military medical commission in Ternopil region. Investigators say the commission sold approximately 1,000 fraudulent deferment certificates to men seeking to avoid conscription, charging between $6,000 and $12,000 per certificate.

The scheme involved doctors and officials who falsified medical records, diagnosing healthy men with conditions that would exempt them from military service. The total proceeds from the scheme are estimated in the millions of dollars.

Several suspects have been detained and criminal proceedings opened. The case is part of a broader crackdown on draft evasion and corruption in Ukraine's military mobilisation system.
