Ukraine Rail Chief Percovsky Warns of Continued Danger at Train Stations
Yevhen Percovsky, the chief executive of Ukrzaliznytsia, Ukraine's national railway operator, issued a public statement warning that train stations across Ukraine remain potential targets for Russian missile and drone attacks, and urging all passengers and station personnel to treat air raid sirens with absolute seriousness.
Percovsky stated that while Ukrzaliznytsia has invested heavily in shelter infrastructure at major stations — including reinforced underground waiting areas and improved signage directing passengers to safety zones — the effectiveness of these measures depends entirely on public compliance during alerts.
He specifically noted that the behavior of passengers who remain on platforms or in exposed areas during air raid alerts, waiting to board trains, dramatically increases risk to life. Railway personnel have been instructed to actively enforce shelter protocols.
The warning comes in the context of heightened Russian targeting of transport infrastructure as part of a sustained campaign to degrade Ukraine's mobility and economic resilience. Several station buildings and rail-adjacent facilities have sustained damage in prior attacks during the ongoing conflict.
