Ukraine's National Guard: Foreign Recruits Get 51 Days of Basic Training

1 min read

Basic general military training for foreigners in Ukraine's National Guard lasts 51 days, while a 14-day course is available only to those with confirmed service experience who pass an entry assessment, National Guard spokesman Colonel Ruslan Muzychuk told Ukrainska Pravda.

"The shortened basic training course for foreigners and stateless persons is provided only for those who have service experience,"

he said.

Who qualifies for the intensive course

Muzychuk explained that training of foreigners and stateless persons entering military service in the National Guard follows Cabinet of Ministers resolution No. 768 of June 12, 2026 and an order of the National Guard commander approving the training program for this category.

The shortened (intensive) course may be applied only to candidates who previously served in military formations or law enforcement of other countries, want the intensive course and provide a document confirming that service. Before admission they must pass an entry assessment of their knowledge and practical skills. Only if they pass can they take the 14-day intensive course.

Adaptation course

After basic training, all service members complete an adaptation course of up to 14 days under a program for adaptation and additional preparation for combat. Muzychuk said the duration and content depend on the established requirements and on the soldiers' level of preparedness, which is needed to ensure proper readiness for combat tasks.

Earlier, the government backed creating a Center for Recruiting Foreigners and Stateless Persons within the National Guard. More in Politics.
