The Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has vehemently rejected accusations from Tehran that Kyiv is complicit in United States and Israeli military actions in the Middle East. The diplomatic clash follows claims by Iran’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Amir Saeid Iravani, who accused Ukraine of deploying anti-drone specialists to the region.
In a formal letter addressed to UN Secretary-General António Guterres, Iravani asserted that Ukraine is actively facilitating aggression against Iran. The Iranian envoy claimed that Kyiv's acknowledgment of sending hundreds of drone countermeasure experts to the Middle East constitutes "material and operational support for military aggression."
"Ukraine's intervention is not accidental, but demonstrates active facilitation of the illegal use of force against a sovereign state," Iravani stated. He further argued that such actions hold Ukraine internationally liable for assisting in unlawful acts. Additionally, the Iranian diplomat categorically denied that Tehran's military cooperation with Moscow, particularly regarding unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), poses any threat to global security.
Ukraine's response was swift and uncompromising. Heorhii Tykhyi, spokesperson for the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry, took to the social media platform X to denounce the Iranian envoy's statements.
"How do you know if a representative of the Iranian regime is lying? If his lips are moving, he is lying," Tykhyi wrote. He highlighted the stark contrast in the two nations' actions, pointing out that Ukraine has endured attacks from nearly 60,000 Iranian-supplied drones launched by Russia since 2022.
Emphasizing that not a single Ukrainian drone has ever targeted Iranian territory, Tykhyi delivered a scathing conclusion: "This liar should have been gone a long time ago, along with his regime."
