Ukraine strikes oil targets in Russia's Samara and Volgograd regions
Ukrainian Defense Forces conducted long-range strikes against oil infrastructure in Russia's Samara and Volgograd regions on Friday, President Volodymyr Zelensky announced. The operations targeted Russian energy facilities that support the war effort and were described as a direct response to Russian escalation.
Multiple targets hit across Russia
In addition to the oil sites in Samara and Volgograd, Zelensky reported productive strikes on airfields, military enterprises, a rocket and space center, and ammunition depots of the occupying forces. Operations were also conducted in the Black Sea area and in Voronezh and Nizhny Novgorod regions.
Strategy of pressure
Zelensky framed the strikes as Ukraine's use of what he termed long-range sanctions — cross-border operations targeting Russian military-industrial infrastructure to raise the cost of the war for Moscow. Ukraine has escalated deep-strike operations inside Russian territory over recent months, targeting oil refineries, fuel depots and military logistics.
