Ukraine strikes Syzran refinery and Taganrog drone factory in deep strike operations

Ukrainian forces on September 15 carried out major long-range strikes against strategic targets deep inside Russian territory, hitting the Syzran oil refinery in Samara Oblast and a drone manufacturing facility in Taganrog, Rostov Oblast. The Syzran refinery, one of Russia's key fuel processing facilities, was struck by Ukrainian drones and missiles, triggering large fires that were visible for kilometers. The refinery has strategic importance as a fuel supplier for Russian military operations. In a separate strike, Ukrainian forces targeted a factory in Taganrog designated for drone production. Local reports confirmed explosions and fires at the industrial site. President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed the strikes in his evening address, stating that Ukraine was exercising its right to strike military-industrial targets on Russian territory that support the war effort against Ukraine. Russian air defense systems were reported to have intercepted some of the attacking drones, but multiple warheads reached their targets. Russian emergency services were dispatched to both locations to contain the fires.
