Ukraine Switches to Winter Time on the Night of October 25
Ukraine will switch to winter time on the night of October 24–25, moving its clocks back by one hour, according to the rules still in force.
What the rules say
The change is set by Cabinet of Ministers resolution No. 509 of May 13, 1996. Under the document, on the last Sunday of October at 4 a.m. the clocks are turned back one hour, so the extra hour is gained overnight.
Why the change still happens
On July 16, 2024, the Verkhovna Rada passed in full a bill on the calculation of time in Ukraine that would end the switch between summer and winter time. The clocks were supposed to stop changing from 2025.
However, the law has not entered into force: President Volodymyr Zelensky has not yet signed it. Until he does, the 1996 resolution continues to apply and Ukrainians will set their clocks back as usual this weekend.
Most phones, computers and other connected devices update automatically, while wall clocks, car dashboards and kitchen appliances usually have to be adjusted by hand.
