Ukraine's FM: Putin Is Not Just Attacking Ukraine, He Is Openly Challenging the US

1 min read

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sibyha commented on Russia's overnight strikes, saying that Putin responded to the US "energy truce" initiative with 39 missiles and more than 120 drones, directing the attack primarily at Ukraine's energy infrastructure.

"Putin is not just attacking Ukraine. He is openly challenging the United States and treating every attempt to stop this war with contempt. Aggression cannot bring economic benefit. No easing of sanctions. No concessions that would allow Russia to finance its next wave of terror. Every dollar entering Moscow's military budget is another resource for attacks on Ukrainian civilians and a threat to transatlantic security," Sibyha wrote on X.

The minister called on partners to respond by strengthening sanctions, tightening enforcement, and providing immediate additional air defense support to Ukraine. He said Putin must face accountability for rejecting peace, not receive incentives to continue the war.

Earlier, President Donald Trump had claimed that the "energy truce" he announced was in effect and that reports of violations required verification. The Kremlin said it had nothing to say about the truce.
