Ukraine's SBU Warns Citizens Against Filming and Sharing Strike Videos

1 min read

Ukraine's Security Service (SBU) has called on citizens not to film or share photos and videos of Russian attacks, including strikes on military facilities, critical infrastructure, and air defense operations.

The SBU stressed that Russian military tracks and analyzes such materials and can use them to adjust follow-up strikes. The agency warned that under certain circumstances, publishing such content could be prosecuted under Article 114-2 of Ukraine's Criminal Code, covering unauthorized distribution of information about the Armed Forces' movements and the transfer of information to the aggressor state, with a maximum penalty of up to 12 years imprisonment.

The SBU stated it systematically monitors the spread of such recordings online and holds their authors accountable.

The warning came following a Russian strike on Kyiv's Northern Bridge on October 4, after which several videos of the attack circulated online. President Zelensky later himself released video footage of the strike.
