Ukrainian Embassy in Washington Evacuated Over Suspicious Object
The Ukrainian embassy in Washington was temporarily evacuated on Friday, October 23, because of a suspicious object near the entrance to its consular section. European Pravda reported this, citing Ukraine's Foreign Ministry.
The ministry said that American police classified the object found at the entrance as suspicious. To protect staff and visitors, it was decided to temporarily evacuate the embassy and cordon off the area.
Authorities at the scene
U.S. law enforcement officers and bomb disposal specialists were called to the site and are carrying out the necessary checks. "The embassy, in cooperation with the American side, will establish the circumstances of the incident," the ministry added.
Background
European Pravda noted that relations between Ukraine and the United States have recently been tense. The Wall Street Journal reported that Elon Musk ordered Starlink to be slowed in Ukraine, and on Thursday, October 22, media wrote that U.S. President Donald Trump called Musk and asked him to lift the restrictions; see WSJ: Trump Called Musk Over Starlink Speed Limits in Ukraine. Trump himself declined to say whether he made the call. As of the morning of October 23, according to media reports, Ukrainian troops were still facing Starlink speed limits despite Trump saying full service had been restored.
