Ukrainian soldiers from the 71st Separate Air Mobile Brigade of the Armed Forces repelled another Russian attempt to infiltrate into flanking positions through a gas pipeline in Sumy region on April 19, the brigade announced on social media.
"You won't believe it — but again, the pipe. Another attempt to break through via a gas pipeline and on light vehicles — not for the first time and not the second, but with the same result," the brigade stated. Russian forces attempted a two-pronged maneuver: infiltrating through the gas pipeline on foot while simultaneously advancing on quadbikes and motorcycles.
Thanks to coordinated action by the 71st Brigade and adjacent units, the infiltration was detected early and stopped before Russian forces could establish a foothold in the flanking positions.
The Ukrainian defenders eliminated 35 Russian soldiers and wounded 17 others. Equipment destroyed in the engagement: 4 quadbikes and 3 motorcycles.
This was a repeat of an April 14 incident at the same location, when the 71st Brigade had already stopped a similar Russian pipeline infiltration attempt. Military observers note that Russian forces have been repeatedly using the same infiltration routes in Sumy region despite heavy casualties on each attempt, suggesting a persistent tactical pressure campaign rather than conventional assault operations.
