Ukrainian Man to Stand Trial in Germany for Alleged Russia Espionage

German prosecutors in Dusseldorf have filed charges against a 53-year-old Ukrainian citizen from Attendorn in the Sauerland region, accusing him of espionage on behalf of Russian intelligence services. The charges were announced on September 29, 2026.

According to the Dusseldorf prosecutor's office, the suspect is alleged to have worked for Russian intelligence since at least November 2025. His task involved gathering information about a man in Germany who had participated in combat on the side of Ukraine's Armed Forces after Russia's full-scale invasion.

The suspect was arrested on March 27, 2026, after allegedly transmitting collected information to Russian intelligence. He faces charges of espionage under German law.
