Ukrainian Priest of Moscow-Linked Church Charged After Killing Three People on the Street
Ukrainian law enforcement officials have formally charged a priest of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (Moscow Patriarchate), known as UOC-MP, with murder after he allegedly attacked and killed three people and seriously wounded two others on a public street.
The incident took place when the priest allegedly assaulted multiple civilians in what witnesses described as a sudden and unprovoked attack. Emergency services responded to the scene, but three of the victims did not survive their injuries.
The case has drawn significant attention in Ukraine given the controversial status of the UOC-MP, which has maintained ties to the Russian Orthodox Church during Russia's ongoing war against Ukraine. Ukrainian authorities have been tightening oversight of the Moscow-affiliated church, and some of its clergy and properties have faced scrutiny over alleged links to Russian interests.
The suspect is currently in custody as the investigation continues.
