Ukrainian Railways Face Significant Delays Due to Russian Infrastructure Attacks

Ukraine's state railway operator Ukrzaliznytsia announced Tuesday that dozens of trains are running significantly behind schedule following overnight and morning attacks on railway infrastructure by Russian forces.

The attacks targeted power supply infrastructure, signaling equipment, and track sections in multiple regions, forcing the railway to reroute trains and operate at reduced speeds in affected areas. Some passengers are experiencing delays of up to four hours.

Ukrzaliznytsia urged passengers to check schedules before traveling and to expect ongoing disruptions. The company said its repair teams are working to restore normal operations as quickly as possible.

Russia has systematically targeted Ukraine's railway infrastructure throughout the war, aiming to disrupt supply lines, troop movements, and civilian transportation. Ukraine's railways have been critical both for military logistics and for the movement of civilians, including refugees and internally displaced persons.

Despite the attacks, Ukrzaliznytsia has managed to maintain rail services throughout the war, often rerouting trains and conducting rapid repairs under difficult conditions.
