US Commits Nearly $400M in Military Aid to Ukraine — But Excludes Patriot Missiles
The Trump administration has taken legal steps to obligate nearly the full $400 million in military assistance for Ukraine that Congress approved at the end of 2025, Reuters reported citing sources familiar with the matter. As of early this week, $307 million had already been formally contracted.
What Is and Is Not Included
The administration plans to obligate the remaining $93 million before the end of the fiscal year on September 30. However, the package notably does not include Patriot air-defense missiles, which Ukraine has repeatedly requested to protect its cities from Russian aerial bombardment.
The first deliveries of offensive weapons and equipment, including spare parts, are expected in the coming weeks. The package represents a rare case of the Trump administration activating congressionally approved Ukraine funding in the context of ongoing ceasefire negotiations with Russia.
