US Congress Bill Would Block Russia-US Diesel Deal
House Foreign Affairs Committee member Democrat Gregory Meeks introduced a bipartisan bill aimed at blocking a US-Russia diesel fuel deal, according to the committee's website.
The bill would prohibit the US Development Finance Corporation (DFC) from investing in Russian energy, invalidate any general licenses allowing transactions with Russian state energy companies, and reverse executive actions that removed Russia from US sanctions lists.
The legislation also contains provisions against US government support for energy deals with Russia's state oil company Rosneft and its subsidiaries.
The move comes in response to Trump administration actions that have eased US economic restrictions on Russia, including recent executive orders waiving sanctions under the Graham Act. Lawmakers from both parties have expressed concern that weakening economic pressure on Russia removes incentives for Moscow to engage in good-faith negotiations on ending the war in Ukraine.
