Vance Blames “Western Liberals” for Violence at French Protests
US Vice President JD Vance, commenting on overnight video from the French city of Limoges in which protesters set fire to a 19th-century city hall, said that “Western liberals” who brought the “third world” to France are to blame for the violence during the recent protests. He wrote on X, according to European Pravda.
What Vance wrote
Vance veiledly blamed immigration from third countries for the violence. “Western liberals brought the ‘third world’ to France and other countries in the name of diversity and compassion. They ignored fundamental questions of assimilation and compatibility. They were told this would lead to exactly this, and they did not listen. I pray that France, a beautiful country with wonderful people, stops this madness before more of its historic landmarks burn,” he wrote.
He added that the United States could face a similar situation if Democrats win the congressional elections: “And I hope Americans are paying attention. This is the future for your country that Democrats in Congress want to create.”
Background
After large-scale protests in France that turned into riots, looting and violent clashes, law enforcement detained more than 1,200 people. Protests by civil servants, trade unionists and pupils have been going on in France for more than a month. Workers are demanding higher pay, and pupils better learning conditions. High-school pupils’ protests are the largest, with almost 7,000 detentions reported since mid-September. French President Emmanuel Macron believes the pupils are being “used” by political forces ahead of the presidential election in April 2027.
