The Ukrainian media community is mourning the loss of Yevhenii Solovei, a veteran cameraman for the TSN news program who was killed in combat on March 27. Solovei had left his broadcasting career in 2022 to volunteer for the military, serving on the frontlines as a drone pilot.
Solovei's journey with the 1+1 media group began in 2011. For over a decade, he was instrumental in bringing critical news to the Ukrainian public. When hostilities broke out in 2014, he frequently traveled to combat zones alongside war correspondents, risking his life to document the harsh realities of the conflict.
Following the full-scale invasion in 2022, Solovei made the profound decision to trade his camera for a weapon, enlisting as a volunteer and specializing as a combat drone operator.
His former employer, 1+1 media, officially announced his passing, describing it as a devastating blow to their team. "We have heavy news for the entire 'Plus' family," the company stated. "Since 2011, Ukrainian viewers saw thousands of important events through his eyes. Since 2014, Yevhenii worked with war correspondents in the combat zone and recorded the truth about the war."
