VKontakte Outages Reported After Drone Strike on St Petersburg Data Center
Users of the Russian social network VKontakte have complained of outages after the Ukrainian attack on a VK data center in St Petersburg, according to Meduza and the Ukrainian company Fire Point.
What users report
The outage-monitoring service Detector404 recorded a rise in complaints about VKontakte and the VK Music service. Users mostly complain about problems loading the news feed and playing tracks. “The complaints began after the overnight attack by Ukrainian drones on the VK data center in Petersburg. Whether they are related to the attack is not known for certain. The company itself said its services were available as normal,” Meduza notes.
What Fire Point says
Fire Point said that overnight into Sunday Ukraine’s Defence Forces used FP-1 drones to hit several oil and digital infrastructure facilities in Russia at once: the VKontakte data center, the Ruchyi oil depot and the Petersburg Oil Terminal, which has a capacity of 12.5 million tonnes a year. Fires broke out at the oil terminal and the depot, and serious damage to the data center is reported.
Background
