X-Men Reboot Cast: Sadie Sink as Jean Grey, Adam Driver as Mr. Sinister

Marvel Studios has announced the cast for its long-awaited X-Men reboot at the Disney D23 fan event in the United States. Seven key characters were unveiled, with major stars from film and television set to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Headline Cast Announced at D23

Stranger Things actress Sadie Sink will play Jean Grey, a character she had already hinted at in Spider-Man: Brand New Day last month. Star Wars actor Adam Driver joins via video-link as Nathaniel Milbury, also known as Mr. Sinister, who will serve as the film's main villain. Driver told fans he had been talking for years about joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe and felt the time was right.

Kit Connor, known for the Netflix series Heartstopper, takes on the role of Cyclops. Christopher Abbott will portray Professor Charles Xavier, also referred to as X, taking over from Sir Patrick Stewart who will still appear as Professor X in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday before Abbott inherits the role. Samara Weaving plays Emma Frost, Inde Navarrette takes on Rogue, and Maya Boyd portrays Storm.

Release Date and Director

The untitled X-Men film will be directed by Jake Schreier and is set for release in cinemas in May 2028. Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige told D23 attendees that more casting announcements are still to come, suggesting the film's ensemble roster will grow further.

A Long-Awaited Reboot

The last X-Men film under the previous Fox banner, Dark Phoenix, was released in 2019. Following Disney's acquisition of 20th Century Fox and its franchises, Marvel has been building toward integrating the mutant team into the wider MCU. The D23 announcement marks a major milestone in that project, and the combination of prestige TV stars and established film actors signals Marvel's ambitions for the new franchise.
