Yaroslavl Oil Refinery Halts Processing After Ukrainian Drone Strike

📅 Sep 17, 2026⏱ 1 min read💬 0 comments

Russia's Slavneft-Yaroslavnefteorgsintez (YANOS) refinery in Yaroslavl suspended crude oil processing on Thursday following a Ukrainian drone strike, according to four industry sources cited by Reuters. The attack damaged the AVT-3 primary distillation unit.

Scale of Damage

The AVT-3 unit has a capacity of 17,140 tonnes per day, representing approximately 40% of the plant's total refining throughput. The facility has two other primary processing units: AT-4 with 11,430 tonnes per day (27%) and AVT-4 with 14,300 tonnes per day (33%). Notably, the AVT-4 unit was already undergoing repairs after being damaged in a previous drone strike on August 28.

Market Impact

Market participants noted that fuel produced at the Yaroslavl refinery was no longer available for purchase on Thursday following the strike. The YANOS refinery is one of Russia's largest, and repeated damage to its units signals a sustained Ukrainian campaign targeting Russian energy infrastructure.
