Zelensky: New President Would Defend Ukraine, Not Deal with Putin

1 min read

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on October 14, 2026 firmly responded to comments by US President Donald Trump suggesting that Ukraine needed a new leader capable of making a deal to end the war. Speaking on the British show Piers Morgan Uncensored, Zelensky said that any future Ukrainian president would continue defending the country rather than capitulating to Russian demands.

Trump's Suggestion of New Leadership

Trump had earlier suggested that Zelensky was unable to broker a deal with Russia to end the war, implying Ukraine should consider leadership change. The host reminded Zelensky of Trump's words, prompting the Ukrainian president to respond directly.

Ukraine's Democratic Commitment

Zelensky reminded the audience that before him there was another Ukrainian president who also stood against Russia. He emphasized that Ukraine's commitment to sovereignty and territorial integrity is not a personal stance but a national one — any Ukrainian leader would be bound to defend the country. He also noted that under martial law, elections cannot currently be held in Ukraine.
