Zelensky Secures Patriot Missile Package Deal for Ukraine
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced on Thursday that Ukraine has agreed on a new package of missiles for its Patriot air defense systems. Speaking at a meeting with Ukrainian community representatives in the United States, Zelensky underscored the deal's significance without naming the partner country.
A Critical Step for Ukraine's Air Defense
Zelensky stated: “We agreed today — I won’t say with whom — on a package of missiles for Patriot systems. An important decision, very important. There is a result.”
The announcement comes as Ukraine faces intensifying Russian aerial attacks. Patriot systems have proven highly effective against ballistic missiles and other airborne threats, making missile stock replenishment a top priority for Kyiv.
Background: Ongoing Negotiations
Earlier this week, Zelensky noted that US President Donald Trump was positively disposed toward granting Ukraine licenses to produce Patriot interceptors. However, the US State Department clarified that no final decision had yet been made on this licensing question. Thursday’s announcement indicates at least one ally has agreed to supply missiles directly.
