Zelensky: Ukraine Has Not Struck Russian Refineries for Two Days — Russia Ignored Trump's Ceasefire
President Volodymyr Zelensky announced on October 13 that Ukraine had not struck Russian oil refining or energy infrastructure for two days following US President Donald Trump's announcement of a ceasefire in the energy sector. However, Russia had not reciprocated and had struck Ukrainian energy facilities and critical infrastructure during the same period.
Zelensky's Statement
"Ukraine has not struck Russian oil refining and energy infrastructure in general for two days from the moment the President of America announced a ceasefire in energy. But Russia did not listen to the President of America," Zelensky wrote on social media.
Russia's Continued Attacks
Zelensky noted that despite Ukraine's restraint, Russia continued its attacks on Ukrainian territory during this period. On October 12–13 alone, Russia fired ballistic missiles at Kyiv, struck a residential building in Kharkiv, attacked a school in Rivne, and launched drone strikes across multiple regions.
Context: Trump's Energy Ceasefire
US President Trump had proposed a halt to strikes on energy infrastructure as a confidence-building measure toward broader peace talks. Ukraine appears to have honored this call unilaterally, while Russia — according to Zelensky — has not followed suit, raising questions about the viability of the initiative.
