Zelensky's office denies secret agreement with Seoul over disclosure of DPRK prisoner transfer

1 min read

Zelensky adviser Dmytro Lytvyn stated that Ukraine did not violate any non-disclosure agreement with South Korea regarding the transfer of North Korean prisoners of war to Seoul. The statement was issued in response to media reports claiming Ukraine had secretly agreed with Seoul not to publicize the transfer.

Ukraine's position

"Ukraine did not violate a non-disclosure agreement with Seoul regarding the disclosure of the transfer of DPRK prisoners of war to South Korea," Lytvyn said. Ukrainian officials have insisted the disclosure of the prisoner handover was handled in full accordance with any existing agreements.

Background

Ukraine captured a number of North Korean soldiers during fighting on Ukrainian territory. The transfer of these prisoners to South Korea marked a significant diplomatic development, as it provided Seoul with direct access to information about the deployment of North Korean troops in support of Russia. The case drew significant international attention.
