Zelenskyy Proposes Air Defense Partnership in Meeting with Jordan's King Abdullah II

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with King Abdullah II of Jordan on March 29 to explore potential security collaborations, focusing heavily on air defense systems and regional stability across the Middle East and the Gulf.

Sharing Expertise in Air Defense

During the diplomatic visit, the Ukrainian leader emphasized Kyiv's readiness to collaborate on countering aerial threats. Drawing on Ukraine's extensive combat experience, Zelenskyy highlighted the necessity of comprehensive defense networks.

"Ukraine is open to joint work to protect against drone and missile strikes," Zelenskyy stated following the meeting. "From our own experience, we know that without a unified system, it is simply impossible to set up full-fledged protection of people and critical infrastructure."

He noted that Ukraine has successfully developed such a system while defending against relentless Russian bombardments, which frequently utilize Iranian-designed drones, as the country navigates the fifth year of the full-scale war.

Mutual Security Benefits

The proposed partnership aims to be mutually beneficial. Zelenskyy stressed the importance of reciprocal support, stating, "It is very important that those to whom we offer our expertise can also help us strengthen. I thank His Majesty for the meeting and openness to dialogue."

The discussions in Jordan represent the latest leg of a broader diplomatic mission by the Ukrainian President focused on security matters. Prior to his arrival in Jordan, Zelenskyy conducted official visits to Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Qatar, reflecting Ukraine's deepening engagement with Gulf and Middle Eastern nations.
