A Russian drone strike near the Polish border may not have been random: Ukraine's railway operator says it could have targeted a train carrying Boris Johnson and EU security advisers from France, Britain and Italy. Poland's President Nawrocki called for immediate consultations, underscoring how close the war keeps drifting to NATO territory. On the ground, the human cost kept mounting. In Sumy region's Konotop district, a drone hit a repair crew's vehicle, killing a 53-year-old driver and wounding an electrician who had gone out to fix damaged power lines. In Kherson's Korabelny district, another drone set an ambulance ablaze, injuring its 49-year-old driver and 44-year-old paramedic. Against that backdrop, Ukraine's General Staff logged 197 clashes over the day, with the fiercest fighting around Pokrovsk, where 21 attacks were repelled, and Kostiantynivka, which faced 18. Kyiv also widened its sanctions net, with Zelensky signing decrees against 20 Russian oil-export vessels and 29 firms tied to Rostec's arms production, alongside measures on former press secretary Yulia Mendel. Mendel hit back, calling the sanctions unconstitutional and Zelensky a dictator, and insisting they would not shift her pro-peace stance. In Germany, meanwhile, Friedrich Merz's bloc moved to quash talk of his removal after the CDU took a heavy hit in Saxony-Anhalt's state election.
