Deadly Kyiv Drone Strikes as Ukraine Repels 197 Attacks
A Russian drone strike on an outdoor market in Sofiivska Borshchahivka, just outside Kyiv, killed at least one person and wounded about ten, the deadliest strike of the day. Zelensky said the wider wave of drone attacks on the capital also damaged the Saudi ambassador's residence, schools and kindergartens, killing one more. In Kyiv's Darnytskyi district a drone hit a nine-story building on Revutsky Street, sparking fires and injuring residents. Drones and artillery also hit Dnipro, Kryvyi Rih and Nikopol, damaging factories, schools and homes. Against that backdrop, Ukraine's General Staff said it repelled 197 enemy assaults in a single day, heaviest around Kostiantynivka, Pokrovsk and Hulyaipole. Zelensky pressed Washington to finally enforce Lindsey Graham's sanctions bill, accusing Moscow of manipulating diplomacy while pressing on with the war. Elsewhere, British police said they were investigating a suspected terror plot targeting RAF Fairford, a base used by US forces, after detaining suspects; Trump warned the plotters meant to cause major damage. In Serbia, President Vucic resigned, announcing he will run in parliamentary elections on October 25. A separate Anthropic report said Russia had used the Claude AI model for pro-Kremlin influence operations in the Central African Republic, with similar activity traced to Congo, Kenya and Sudan.
